Muir Woods, officially known as Muir Woods National Monument, is three miles north of Muir Beach and almost seven miles from Golden Gate National Recreation Area. If you are looking for a beautiful place to spend a few peaceful hours, then this is where you should be. It is open throughout the year. There are no scheduled exemptions. If you are visiting San Francisco, Petaluma, San Rafael, Daly City, Richmond or Berkeley among other cities in the region, you should visit Muir Woods. It is on 1, Muir Woods Road in Mill Valley, not too far from Novato.

If you want to switch off your phone or put it on silent mode, keep away from chats and notifications, then Muir Woods offers a peaceful break. Muir Woods is very popular among locals and tourists. There is limited parking available, so you should arrive early if you want to secure a spot. The national monument is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Through spring and summer months, it remains open up to 8 p.m. The visitor center always closes thirty minutes before the park. There is a gift shop and a café. Both usually close an hour early. You can access Muir Beach & Overlook and Stinson Beach up to an hour after sunset.

Adults need to pay $10 to enter the Muir Woods National Monument. Unlike other places, anyone who is above the age of sixteen is considered an adult. Children under sixteen years of age don’t need to pay any admission fee. There are passes too, but they are not available for regular tourists. Most of the events held at Muir Woods are open to the public. You can get free admission on special holidays such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Presidents Day, National Park Service Birthday, National Park Week Weekends, Veterans Day Weekend and National Public Lands Day.
